Nerdy garden post
Our tomatoes have literally taken over our porch. I have never seen tomato plants this big. They are taller than I am. Proof?

Happening in my kitchen right now
Cornflake Cookies (with some notable alterations)-
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1/2 cup vegetable oil (yeah, they’re super healthy)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup crushed cornflakes
1 cup quick-cooking oats (I added another 1/2 cup quinoa flakes too)

A good choice
Today I briefly entertained the idea of going to the gym after work, but instead I went to the library then came home and baked a carrot cake.
Good choice or best choice ever?
I used this recipe, but cut it in half since there’s only two of us. I also increased the amount of carrots, added pecans, and used the full amount of icing because that’s. how. i. do.

Pasta e Fagioli
…actually, this is more like Bastardized Pasta e Fagioli. The classic recipe uses pancetta and no ground beef, but my boyfriend has an almost Ron Swanson-esque need for meat, so I added it in. Baby birds!
Yesterday, in a flowering tree in our backyard, I discovered a birds nest with about four babies in it. I snapped a few pictures of them before mamma came back and shooed me away. They are totally cute and grumpy!

Home made chili!
It’s just ground beef, three kinds of beans (black, pinto and kidney), crushed tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, garlic, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Deceptively simple and totally delicious!

I went to an old-school roller skating party...
We had a lot of fun except for the part where Ryan bashed his head on a foosball table and began bleeding from the face. That part was not fun. But the rest of it was.
